On another fish subject. We had three customers call us this past week with severe disease problems with their fish and the common factor was not surprising to us: BUYING INFERIOR, POORLY MAINTAINED KOI AND GOLDFISH!!! I know you are temped to buy very early in the season when the water is still too cold and the fish are very disease prone as they are more susceptible due to their weakened state after a long winter without food and minimal water quality BUT these problems could have been avoided.
We would love to sell you fish and we have taken alot of flak for not having more fish SOONER in the season but its just not a good idea to add new fish when the water temperatures are still hovering around 50 degrees. And buying bargain price fish from a bait shop or from a 'farm' can bring a myriad of disease organisms from bacterial to parasitic. 20.00 a pound may seem like a hell of a deal but when you add those fish to your established pond, many times with fish you have had several years, you can end up with the problems those customers are having.
John and I have over 40 years combined in fish husbandry and John is especially knowledgeable with disease and parasites and we can many times help fix a mistake but you have to catch it early. We cannot guarantee you Will never have problems with the fish you buy for K.C. Pond but you can be assured we will not sell you poor quality livestock. We carefully select our suppliers and we know how to handle fish! If you have a problem give us a call!!!
Our new phone number is 816 842 5012. For regular customers you can see the number is one digit higher than the original River City number of 816 842 5011. We did that purposely so everyone would have an easier time getting used to the new number!! We hope it works out that way and that you start calling to let us know you have found us. We are really excited about opening for the 2011 pond season and look forward to building an even better company.
IN MEMORY OF ARGIE 1-21-11

TO OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS
Argie, our store cat died this morning. Many of you had come to know him over the years especially in the last two that John and I have managed the business. We tried our best to care for his failing health and we feel we greatly improved his quality of life. Argie had become much friendlier and more affectionate considering he was basically a 'feral' cat that just happened to hang his hat at River City Koi. He was strong willed, independent and beholding to no one. He lived unrestrained by borders or fences. He came and went as he chose and in his younger days roamed freely throughout North Kansas City. That he managed to stay safe all those years and injury free was miraculous and testament to his wild, streetwise nature.
In the last year though, he stayed close to the compound due mainly to his heavily cataract filled eyes; he never lost his fire and independence nor his cantankerous nature. As early as this summer, he tried to take on another feral cat that had been frequenting the area, 'his area". John and I watched as Argie without hesitation, sprung at the other cat, claws bared, snarling loudly, in the 'general' direction of said cat. Since he was almost completely blind, the event was astounding! We will miss him and we celebrate his full, free life.
We hope all of our old River City and NEW customers will honor his memory by contributing to the “ Argie Fund” which we will start this season to benefit a different animal charity in his name. We will have details and an opportunity for you to contribute each time you visit Kansas City Pond. Our hope and wish is to have as many of our wonderful customers join in to help us save other homeless and needy cats and dogs in the Kansas City area!!!
